OWAC V Daemons of Tzeentch - March 2022 rank and file #2 (0 pts)

 ...Playing with fire...

So after burning my wild card in the fire of February, I though I would easily build momentum from the ashes as I was aiming for March. But I am learning, as a painter, that procrastination is my worst ennemy! Indulging myself good painting time is much harder than expected and I always end up spending my "me time" playing with the kids... Never the less, here I stand, hoping that the Overlord will bless me of his forgiveness for my late editing!

So here they are, the blue horrors of my "Grabbelings".

I started my painting process the same way I painted my pink horrors... But ended up adding another layer of Druchi Violet before working the actual blue base layer.

And finaly, I did not realise when preparing the minis... but I had an unwelcome intruder! I realised that within the last lot I but for this project, a recast made its way. Can you guess who the imposter is? Bad alloy that shrank to much and a lot of lost details...

OWAC V Daemons of Tzeentch - January 2022 rank and file #1 (1260 pts)

 50 Shades of pink...

It has been a hell of a month but here they are, the Grabelings

In 3rd edition they are meant to be 9 per 1260pts... which seems a bit odd from where I stand because it makes no sence for rank and file units. Unless if they were meant to be accompanied by a seperate hero.

Anyway here are 10 of them, with all their gloriously cartoonish faces. Those faces are absolutly wonderful to paint. There is just so much surface to work with. I will for sure paint another one on those, with more time on my hand, and bring it to another level.

Going throught the first part of this challenge has been hard. Real life came down on me pretty hard, and I did almost quit before even starting... But frankly, giving myself some freetime for my hobby, which I have rarely been doing over the past few years, has been a major relief. My wife, half supportive and half mocking, have been helping by taking on the kids at key moments. This first unit is certainly not the top of what I can acheive, but it is already better than the two I painted over the course of 2021!  OWAC V, I'm ready for more!

The Oldworld Warhammer Army Challenge 2022

Here it is, my army to become in the next 6 months;

The chaotic demon horde of UmussLanj'Vin, the Lord of Change.

There is still assembling and paint stripping to go through, but I shall keep you guys up to date as it goes.

UmussLanj'Vin

1 x Lord of Change

This Greather deamon was/shall be sommunded by Velok the recruter. His contribution to the falling of Praag did not go unnoticed, and Vin knows that to be a great opportunity to reach the mortal Realm. Having landed seeds in 3 regions of the Oldworld, he considered the first havest wood bare its fruits.

Happily giving no "armywise" points, the demon lord of a Chaotic army is free, because it considers it will face an army with an equivilent lord/demon army.

Banners:

The army will include 2 magical banners. It is interesting to read the original descriptions from The Lost and the Damned. The banners, being demons themselves, have their very own lifes. Their abilities are also very potent, although it is hard for me to judge if they are cost effective. I decided to include them as individual figures since I plan to create the miniatures that would best suite their physical description and behaviors.

1 x Daemon Devourer

200 pts

This banner is said to contain the souls of lost creatures, snake-like necks arboring the heads of all sort of beings constantly emerging out of it and going back inside it. In close combat, it generates 10 attacks of strengh 7, which makes it a great monster hunter! As for the miniature, I picture a merge between an hydra and the lower body of an horror. I simply do not know if I will opt for a 25x25 human sized creature or push the envelope and make it a huge 50x50 based monster.

1 x Weaving Watcher

100 pts

Again, this banner should be a living cloth weilded by an horror. The representation of the Eye of Tzeentch, attacking from a distance only by gazing to the ennemy.  I will make it a huge eye merged into an horror... and in the process try not to have it look like Bob Razowski from Monsters Inc.

The Thumbsuckers

A childish sight to whoever see them in a quick sight. A dreadful call to the past to others.

Their suction cup shaped fingers are meanth to one purpose, drain your thoughts and use it against whoever may be facing them.

9 x Pink Horrors

9 x Blue Horrors

1260 pts

The Grabelings

The only thing their victims remenbers are their hands... The only thing the survivors remembers are, their hands.

9 x Pink Horrors

9 x Blue Horrors

1260 pts

Flaming Fongoids

9 x Flamers

1260 pts

Flaming beaks

9 x Flamers

1260 pts

And of course, the offering to the Overlord, a cute little alien monkey!

Application Citadel Paint

Voici d'ailleurs mon schéma de couleurs pour mes termagunts, ça se laisse peindre tout seul;

1.Undercoat white

2.Base layer
Skin: Screaming skull
Scales: Genestealer purple
Flesh: Bugman’s glow
Claws: Abaddon black

3.Complete wash with Druchii Violet

4.Layer
Skin: watered down Pallid Wych Flesh in 2 to 4 layers depending on the brightness I wanted

5.Drybrush
Scales: Hormagaunt purple
Flesh: Kislev flesh

Big Mama Wyvern

Here it is, TYPHAGGAHW, GWYFERN OF CEREDIGION... Frankly as much as I love Mierce Miniatures for their designs and sculpting, their names remain a mistery to me! My 5 year old son calls it "la maman dragon", which fits more the bill in my mind.
As always, basing is one of my favorite part. Giving context to a miniature is a key factor to show what I have in mind as a whole setup. In this case, I decided to keep in line with the stuff I did around the Storm of Magic period. All about big monsters in rough landscapes!
White clay base with fancy front yard branches
For very large miniature I like to use those old green 80x100 movement trays. They are very rigid and the sides are higher than the center, perfect to add some details lower than ground level such as pooling water.
I pinned the model but did not use magnets for the wings... I might regret that choice some day but the transition from the wings to the body really needs some green stuff to be smoother.
First overall look
